Class Information for Youth 15-19 Newcomer International Latin

Description

Our beginner teen latin dance class continues in the developmental spectrum of children, introducing movement and deeper understanding of musicality for older youth, ranging from 11 to 17 years old. At this age range children’s coordination and cognitive abilities grow at different rates, but can become quite significant as they learn to perform more sophisticated dance steps. We recommend that children at the ages of 11 through 13 assess their level of coordination and development. It is acceptable to join the 6 to 10 year olds if children this age have not had significant exposure to music and dance. In this dance class we introduce children to more advanced basics of Ballroom and Latin dancing.
We believe that your child’s education should be well-rounded. Therefore we utilize the European method of teaching dance, introducing children to both Ballroom dances (such as Waltz and Quickstep) as well as Latin dances (such as Cha Cha and Rumba). Focus will be on understanding and interpreting basic timing, movement and technique of International style Latin and Ballroom dances. Class covers pre-bronze dance syllabus steps. Students learn simple dance routines that can be used for performances and beginner level dance competitions.
